And when it's a significant number of reviews, like way up in the double digits, you know they haven't been skewed by company reps, etc. But I've just found a review of a Canon personal scanner--the Formula P150--that ranks it above the Fuj. 1100 and 1500. The haven't reviewed the Fuj. 1300, but in my mind Canon trumps Fujitsu, just as Fujitsu trumps Neato (except perhaps in television hype). see less

Answer:
Yes it can......One of the biggest advantages of the S1300 is its portability.......The software must be loaded or downloaded onto each computer for the scanner to function properly. I love mine and have used it without an incident for over two years.....

However, I can verify the comment from 'Desalegn' above, who indicated that the 1300 is slower. It is A LOT slower. If speed is any concern for you, then I would recommend the 1500 variety. The additional size of the 1500 is not that significant when compared with the 1300, unless you actually plan on lugging the scanner around with you. The other benefit of the 1300 is that it can be powered via the USB port on your computer, and the 1500 cannot. This is a big deal for the traveling office.
If you are trying to decide between the two models, it is really an issue of portability. If you are traveling and need a scanner to go with you to do some light volume imaging, you will be happy with the 1300. If you are going to use it on a desk, you will be much happier with the 1500. The 1500 can be moved around without too much trouble, just not in a laptop bag like the 1300. Moving the 1500 between offices once in awhile won't cause much distress, and the speed of the scanning will make the trouble more than worthwhile, but you're not going to travel with it on a business trip. see less

Answer:
I own the S1300i and that's one of my primary uses of the scanner. You will need to flatten out the receipts before feeding it through the scanner but once you do it works pretty well.

Answer:
It can scan them into PDF files. That's how we use it.
How you organize those and what you do with them is a different subject.

Hey Wendy,
I haven't used a ScanSnap scanner but my understanding is that it is simply a scanner that comes with some OCR software. I believe you can create searchable PDFs out of it. It sounds like you're wanting to create expense reports which is one of the niche features of Neat Receipts. I have one of their older refurbished scanners and the included software will scan receipts and grab the relevant data out them (date, payee, amount, etc.) I only used it a couple times and it seemed to work okay. Eventually, the Neat Receipts software frustrated me so much that I gave up on it and just used their scanner to create PDFs. Neat Receipts may be a better option for you though, but be sure to read the reviews first. [[ASIN:B001CQFRPO NeatReceipts Mobile Scanner and Digital Filing System]] see less

Unfortunately, the Scansnap s1300 size appears to be 4.8MM (OD) x 1.7MM (ID) tip which is not standard. You can purchase a 5.5mm x 2.1MM USB barrel connector and then use an adapter plug (aka DC Jack) using a 4.8mmx1.7mm male to 5.5mmx2.1mm female plug - to make it work. I looked everywhere for a 4.8x1.7mm usb barrel connector but could not find one. I tried both the standard 5.5mm x 2.1mm and 4.0mm x 1.7mm USB barrel connectors and neither fit although the 4.0mm x 1.7mm fit somewhat but was too loose and kept falling out. I recently ordered the 4.8x1.7 male to 5.5x2.1 female DC Jack adapter and waiting delivery. I will update this comment when I confirm its the right size tip. Both items can be ordered online using another popular auction website.
Confirmed, correct barrel tip size is 4.8x1.7mm. Received adapter in mail and worked like a charm. see less
