I use my Yamaha receiver to interface these disk players to the speakers, and also supply AM & FM radio to those same speakers. A receiver is use as a Amplifier for Speakers and a Switch Box for hooking different devices to your speakers. Without the Receiver you cannot connect your CD disk player to any remote speakers. Example: If I play my Bose system without a Receiver I can only here the music, or the radio in the room where I have my Bose unit. If I play my Bose unit thru my Receiver, I can listen to the music or radio everywhere I have speakers hooked to the receiver, (out in the yard in other rooms, out on my front porch, in the garage, anywhere). The receiver has the power to drive a bunch of speakers. I hope this helps. Dale see less
