This is a serious program and it's not just a simple paintbrush program. As for the download version, personally I never buy download stuff. I always prefer software I can download myself. Yeah, it may be pricey, but I believe it has less bugs. So, when you can, purchase a computer with a working DVD drive so you can explore the full potential of Corel Painter 12. see less

Answer:
I installed the full version. However, once installed, all versions are full functioning complete versions. The Trial is time limited to 30 days of running before you are prompted for a serial number and the program ceases to load. The other flavors are the complete program and without a timer.

I just know that Corel Painter 12 is really targeted to the professional artist. Sometimes art software can be cheaper for the student and they can get a discount for it, but you'll have to be in college to get the offer. Adobe had offered it, like last year, but I'm not sure if it's being offered anymore. I purchased Corel Painter 12 because it was close to the programs I used in Parsons School of Design and it didn't suck all of the money out of my pocket like Adobe. Corel Painter 12 has a lot of stuff on it that is beneficial for an artist who needs an extra edge in the artistic field. If you're not a serious artist or just like to create images just for fun, look around for other software that fits your needs. Check out Corel's website to see if they offer a basic art software that won't cost a lot of money. Or check out other art software on the market that matches your artistic ability . Just remember the right software is out there for you and remember it'll take time to find the right one. see less

Wonder why it doesn't cost more? It's older and has been upgraded at least once and possibly twice that I know of. HOWEVER, you should contact Corel headquarters (or Amazon) and ask them your question to be sure. If this is what I think it is, it's apparently selling for the right price, all things considered.
