I use one of these TVs for my PC gaming, and another of the same model for Xbox 360 gaming. I haven't noticed any issues once properly configured (See Game Mode answer from Samsung rep on this page).

Answer:
We have used it as you are stating and it does play the major formats .avi .mp4. .mvk had some issues. I love vlc and use it as a default player on my Mac which I have a hdmi cable direct to tv.
.mvk doesn't allow for subtitle selection as it's intended.

Use a device that supports internet connectivity and connect it to your TV.
For example a Blu Ray player that has WiFi or a Roku. There are other devices as well.

C. Drake,
Thanks for purchasing a Samsung television.
One of the biggest things you can do to get a great picture is to ensure that your devices are sending the highest quality picture. If you have an HD cable/satellite box, make sure that the cable/satellite box settings are set to "HD" or "720" or "1080" output settings. Also, check to make sure that you have HD service, or are testing the picture with an HD channel. (While today, many channels support HD, some still transmit in Standard Definition).
If you're using AV cables, try HDMI - that will also help give you a lossless digital signal from your source (cable box, Blu-Ray, etc) to the television.
If we can help further, please reach out and let us know how we can help. We definitely want you to get the most out of your television, so please keep us posted.

Answer:
You will need an internet connection to play back content from the internet like Amazon Prime. This could be done by attaching an internet ready Blu-Ray player or by directly connecting your computer to the TV with an HDMI connector. As a free standinfg unit, the TV has no "smart" abilities.
