I believe they are Gen2 Cree XM-L2, as of late Oct 2013.
I don't have any special tools to check/confirm the authenticity of the Gen2 spec, so I came up with these two things that I am satified with:
1) Sticker Test! ;)
I can confirm that the light "Fulfilled by Amazon" in late October 2013, part Number QP2A-X-AE (AE denotes the Gen2 lights per foursevens) comes with a "Gen2" sticker. On the bottom of the box, there is a product barcode sticker, and just above that is a silver sticker "XM-L Gen2" (others have reported a gold "Gen2" sticker). When I contacted foursevens, they say this is how to tell which version you purchased.
2) Eyeball Test! ;)
I've also examined the actual LED on the light and compared it to online images of the Cree XM-L2 LED, and I can confirm it looks identical to the photos - silver back, 2 wires. The old XM-L LED has green back, 3 wires
I have no other flashlight to compare this with, or any special tools to test the light, so these are the only two ways I can think of to confirm which light I received.
So based on this, I was satisfied that I received the updated QP2A-X Gen2 with Cree XM-L2 LED.
Hope this helps! see less
