There are two different hardware versions out for this router, v1 with 2x USB 2.0 ports and v2 with 1x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0 ports. Most of these routers in the retail channels now SHOULD be v2 and come with the USB 3.0 port, but used and refurbished ones are likely to still be v1 with only USB 2.0 ports.

I have a 2800 sf house, with the router place in the room above the garage mounted on a wall vertically. The single to the other side of the house is ok, 52mb out of 145mb. I will be installing a shelf to mount horizontally to try getting a better signal, just have not gotten to it.
