(hope that made sense) Kind of like a woman would do with a purse that has a long carry strap to keep someone from snagging it off her shoulder. I love this pack… see more It's a sling with a carry handle on top. I'm an XXL woman and I can extend the sling strap to be long enough to go over the shoulder and wrap around my waist. Answer:
If you want it to fit inside the bag, it would have to collapse to a very small size, maybe 14" at the longest. The bag has straps on either side that the monopod could be clipped to. I have a MeFoto tripod that connects nicely to the side.

The camera pocket that I use is larger but could be stuffed with any thing to securely pack the camera so there is no movement inside the backpack. If I was to go riding a horse I would probably wear the backpack on myself as it does strap on securely and that would keep the bag from jarring so bad during any trotting or running. I really like the padded and sturdiness of this backpack and the extra pockets compared to a camera bag which in my opinion would not be suitable for riding on a horse. see less

Answer:
it's a pretty big back pack. if you are doing leisure riding I could see where it would be ok. if you are riding trails with a mountain bike i'm not too sure. the backpack covers almost all my back. I love this back pack. good for traveling on a plane. I put my laptop and camera gear with plenty of room to spare.
