Although I've never measured shutter lag for video, I've never been frustrated by this lag so I'd guess it is very short.

No, it doesn't automatically change into timer mode. You have to set that separately. I think is because a lot of people just hold the camera for selfies... like I take selfies all the time by just holding the camera out in front of me and I'd be annoyed if there was always a delay. But it is easy to set the timer.

They are. Overall it's a nice camera but ours allowed water in and the company would not replace. We've shipped it back at our expense twice for repair and it continued to allow water in.
