I Read This Book Over Thirty Years Ago,

I remember that this was the first JFK assasination book I laid my hands on. My dad bought it and I couldn't help but get into it myself. As a twelve year-old it opened a whole new world I never heard about. My dad walked me through the details and soon I knew the whole Kennedy, Kennedy and King triple assassination.There is nothing juicier for a gangly sickly kid than old black and white photos with captions in the middle of a paper back. It had a transport-back-in-time feel. A whole generation later JFK's death is still a mystery. Part of the American dream died that day and has never been healed ever since. As a kid I couldn't help but ask: how can they kill the president of the United States and not get caught? The book raised the common questions that remain unanswered to this day. The book itself represents the helplessness of that era. Every time I remember the feeling of having read it and knowing the dark world outside my home I wonder what evil was allowed to cripple the hopes of an age. Just like that song American Pie.
