Excellent battery operated portable pump,
By Sparse Grey Hackle (Boulder, Utah) - See all my reviews

As far as battery operated portable pumps go this one is tops.
Owning a boat livery and having to bail out 75 boats every rainstorm you get to know pumps well. I am shaking my head at the poor reviews a couple people gave this pump, you can't teach a pig to sing, you waste your time and only annoy the pig so I won't even try to expalin to them why they are using the wrong pump to begin with If you need a sump pump to empty your basement, this is not it! If you need a pump to move 1,000 gallons of water in a flash, this is not it! A 12Volt or 115V house current pump can not be compared to a small portable battery operated pump, it's like comparing an old fashioned washing board to a machine washer/dryer and saying the board does not perform as expected....No, it wouldn't if you are expecting a 220volt $1,000 dollar washing machine result. A small submersible battery run pump that runs on 4 batteries is not going to be as impressive as a pump that is measured in HORSEPOWER ratings...that should be obvious to the reviewers who were unhappy with this pump. I've used the same pump for 10 years, I take the batteries out when not in use and save myself a corrosion problem, I also drain it out, takes 30 seconds! and store it inside like I do with all elcetronic tools I don't want to replace every year. The beauty of this pump is its portability. Need to drain a rain barrel? drop it in, it's waterproof and you can attach longer lengths of hose to it to reach down into any depth. Pump out the boat while your having coffee? Drop it in. Get the water off the pool cover or empty a kiddy pool? Drop it in. Camping? drop it in the lake, pond or river and fill a 5 gallon bucket in minutes without bending and breaking your back. Dry camping with the TT, 5er or RV, simply carry a folding collapsible bucket and the pump or a couple 5 gallon pails, and you can easily refill your on board water tanks no funnels needed. after 10 years of almost weekly use my pump motor is shot, it still runs but the impeller is shot, that's pretty good for a little plastic impeller, and I've sucked up all kinds of leaves, grit and muck into the poor thing and she keeps running or will as sson as I knock the mud off it. I paid under twenty bucks for this a decade ago, so was a bit surprised to see they doubled in price since then, but seeing how long they last, I won't hesistate to buy another, and in fact ordered one right now. You can use this to pump out bathtubs and sinks if the drain clogs, use it to fill a fish tank or empty one, it's uses are endless really. If you can fit the pump into the container it will pump it out, I've even filled a couple 5 gallon buckets with miracle grow plant food solution and used this pump to water flowers and containers over my head, lots easier to hold a hose up over my head than a watering can or bucket!

Works great as a pump or siphon,

Needed something to pump water away from the house during a fast snowmelt. This unit works great! Not mentioned in the initial information received was that it would function as a siphon, too. It's not necessary to keep the pump running on its batteries. Place it in a bucket or old ice chest on a higher level than the end of a garden hose, run the pump for a minute or so, then shut it off. It will continue to siphon water until it loses suction. I put a valve between the pump's hose and the 15 ft. garden hose to regulate the flow of water, and it siphons all day. Hopefully, it will do so until all the snow melts and we can get the downspouts reconnected to the house gutters. It was expensive, but it appears to work well.

I got this pump to empty my spa. It is so convenient and light weight, I just love it. It pumps out my 850 gallon spa in about 2 hours. The batteries don't seem to drain at all. After the first time, I took the batteries out and cleaned the pump. The next time I used the same batteries and it worked like new. I love this pump!

works to get water off swimming pool top.
works to change water out of small fish pool. (childrens pool) works great for many water small pumping projects I use a cut out piece of a woman"s pant hose over the bottom to help stop any thing in the water from going into the pump when using.

I know this product isn't designed to operate as a backup sump pump, which can pump about 10X as much water, but by the time we realized Hurricane Irene was going to smack us upside our proverbial heads, there wasn't a generator or battery backup system for sump pumps left in the state. So I found these beauties, had two of them overnighted (thank you Amazon Prime!), and they arrived just in time for us to hook them up (the garden hose attachment was a lifesaver) before we lost power. And while they obviously couldn't quite keep up with the flow of water coming in, they managed to make a sizable enough dent to keep the leakage to a minimum and as soon as the rain stopped they quickly made up enough ground for us to feel comfortable turning them off until our power came back on and the sump pumps could do the rest. I honestly feel like these pumps saved the new cork floors in our basement, and although we plan on immediately installing a backup battery system for our sump pumps, I think these pumps will continue to prove useful for everything from emptying the kiddie pool (and saving my poor back) to emptying a waterlogged canoe (and again saving my poor back). I can't stress enough how grateful we were to have these pumps last night! Thank you!

We bought this for removing the copious amounts of water collecting on our new pool winter cover (a very wet fall in the northeast this year)and find it to work spectacularly. The pump really moves water at a high rate with fresh batteries. While the estimated five hour run time on new batteries might be a bit of optomistic advertising, the pump works so efficiently, the actual life of batteries is of little concern. The pump does lose its ability to pump well near the end of the battery life, especially if connected to a long hose. The large amount of leaves and smaller debris in the collected water do not seem to slow this down. This is by far the best value for its kind.

Pump works very well. Very surprised due to its size - has a lot of suction. It is also quiet. I purchased it to drain an outdoor fountain. Haven't used it for that yet. Am concerned as it appears it should only be used on clean water. The outdoor fountain is green from winter. I'm hoping the pump will hold up and last if I clean it well afterwards. For the price, it's nice to have around just in case.

Just what we needed!,

I needed something like a bilge pump to drain the dirty water out of the bottom of our huge Intex pool; there's only so much that will drain from the pool's drain opening, so we're always left with a few inches of standing water that needs to be removed before we can fill it with clean water. In the past, I've tried using our small shop vac, but I had to stop constantly to empty the canister. I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money, so this portable water pump seemed like it was exactly what we needed.
I was surprised at the compact size of this item when I opened the box, and admittedly, I was doubtful as to how well it would work. Keep in mind that we had a lot of leaves (and grass and dirt) mixed-in with the standing water in our pool, but I gave it a shot, anyway. Wow...was I surprised! It took a while, but we really did have a lot of water to drain; when it became clogged with leaves (you can tell by the gurgling sound it makes), it was easy to remove the plate on the bottom and unclog it. I also like the fact that the drainage tube is clear -- you can look at it from a distance and see that it's draining, as opposed to getting right on top of it to check. With all of the organic debris in that water, the tube itself didn't get clogged at all, which in itself, is a testament to how well it works. It's also worth noting that the drainage tube can be connected to a garden hose (we used a short one); this was another bonus for us because the hose had to be long enough to extend up and over the sides of the pool. The only improvement I would make as far as the design is that it would be nice to have both an intake hose and an outtake hose; we still needed to use the shop vac for the little puddles of water that were too shallow for the portable pump to drain -- if it had an intake hose, I could have used it like a shop vac that doesn't need to be emptied. Also, there are other things you might like to drain that the WaterBuster pump won't fit into (I tried it with our stand-alone ice maker that needs to be drained when cleaning and such, and it wouldn't fit inside). All in all, I'm very glad I made this purchase; it was worth every penny. This is a handy little item to have around! |
