5.0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Book for any student of Bible History, October 3, 2002

This review is from: The authentic annals of the early Hebrews: Also known as the Book of Jasher (Hardcover)
I first became acquainted with the Book of Jasher during one of my frequent trips to Israel. I was shown the Hebrew version by an elderly Jewish scholar and Holocaust survivor, Mr. Paul Rothstein. This gentleman has an extensive library of Talmudic/Mirashic works and among these volumes is the Book of Jasher(Hebrew title: Sefer Ha Yashar). Some scholars believe it is the same "Jasher" referenced in Joshua 10:13 and 2Samuel 1:18. Another Jewish scholar, Rabbi Avraham Sutton has drawn from this text in his work. Sutton is well-known for his contributions to the Jewish lecture series called Aish Ha Torah. The first known publication date of the Hebrew version can be traced to the year 1550 in Naples, Italy. The exhaustive Torah commentary known as "MeAm Loez", first published in 1730 by the esteemed Jewish sage Rabbi Yaakov Culi makes numerous references to the Book of Jasher. Editor Wayne Simpson brings us the original English translation from 1840. I regard Mr.Simpson's edition to be a valuable reference tool for any serious student of Judaica or Biblical history. In addition Wayne has added his own valuable, insightful research drawn from the text. I highly recommend this thought-provoking work.

If you are looking to learn about the history of the Jews and Hebrew writings, THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU!! If your into FICTION, then this might be of intrest to you.

There is no dought that this book has nothing to do with the book spoken in the Bible as the Book of Jasher.
