1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of this company January 11, 2012
My Avast AV sent up an obnoxious large reminder on my PC that I should renew since my subscription expired in about a month. It sent the message up every time I booted, so instead of figuring out how to disable the message I thought it would just be easier to renew.....WRONG!
I clicked renew, paid using my credit card and was about to install the license key when I noticed that it expired a year from the day I renewed rather than a year from the date my existing subscription expired. Now the fun begins!
I called the number on the receipt and it was an outsourced tech support who offered to install control software and fix my PC. I declined telling him that my PC wasn't broken. So after about a total of 20 minutes, he gave me the Avast sales number to call (also outsourced). After about another 20 minutes with the sales people I was given an email address of someone named "orders" at Avast. Two days later I received an answer from them which I posted below:

Hello xxxxx,

I am sorry about this inconvenience, but problem is that new license is completely different product (new version 6).

If you insist on refund, I can then refund your January subscription and then you can repurchase when your original subscription expire.

Please let me know.

Best Regards,
Vladimir Hornicek

I was not entirely satisfied with the tone of this response! I did ask for the refund. A day later I was contacted, by email, by the sales outsource people and had to log onto their site, sign an agreement stating I would destroy the product. As of today still no refund.

Avast used to be a very tight low overhead AV system. They also used to have great tech support and responsive staff. It has gotten to be a bloated, try to do everything system, with questionable ethics.

I will be looking at other systems.

1.0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY February 17, 2012
I managed to contract a major virus twice in four months with Avast. The virus disabled the Avast so I had to call the company to get the program restored. They send you off to a third party customer service, IYogi. They were very polite but it takes aver an hour to get things working again. Then they want to sell you additional services to make sure your computer is fixed. Just stay away from this company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Avast Pro 6 October 21, 2011
By LT101
I used Avast Pro 6 after having the free version on my computer for several years. It does what is advertised, and there are frequent updates against new viruses and malware. The seller provided good customer support. No problems so far.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overall a piece of trash that should be uninstalled December 16, 2013
By Phillip
This piece of junk will constantly list legitimate websites as malware sites. Even if the site admins show that every other scan service shows that there's nothing wrong, they will refuse to remove the sites from the blocked lists. Shoddy, shabby, lazy work. Don't buy it!
