Selecting a Thread Gage on Amazon.com
A thread gauge, also known as a thread gage or thread pitch gauge, checks the thread size and pitch diameter of fasteners, pipes, and other threaded parts. The two main styles of thread gauge are a thread plug gage and a screw pitch gauge. A thread plug gauge has a cylindrical body that is threaded at each end and is used for inspecting internal threads. It may be designed for go/no-go testing with a "go" end and a "no-go" end. Certain thread plug gages are manufactured to Class X tolerances as specified by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and may include a certificate of accuracy traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). A screw pitch gauge is used for checking internal and external threads. It has multiple blades that fan out from the frame of the tool, and teeth on each blade that can be matched to a threaded part. Screw pitch gauges are available for inspecting American National, metric, Acme, Whitworth, and other thread types. Some ring gauges are also thread gages that can measure the pitch of external threads. A thread gauge is used in the building trades, metalworking, milling, and manufacturing.
