Selecting a Vortex Shaker on Amazon.com
A vortex shaker, or vortex mixer, produces a spinning motion to mix the contents of lab containers that are touched to the shaker's cup head or platform. Also known as a vortexer, it is available in fixed and variable speed models. A variable speed vortex mixer may operate at speeds from a few hundred rpm for gentle shaking to a few thousand rpm for vigorous shaking. Most vortex shakers have either a cup head or platform to accommodate a single test tube, vial, or beaker. Some models have attachments to hold microplates or multiple test tubes. Certain units offer touch operation that activates when a container is pressed to the cup head or platform, as well as continuous operation. Vortex mixers are typically used for assays, suspensions, dispersions, and other scientific, medical, and pharmacological applications.
