Selecting a Laboratory Convection Oven on Amazon.com
A laboratory convection oven, sometimes called a lab drying oven or a gravity convection oven, is used for general-purpose drying, sterilizing, and heat treating. A gravity convection oven works by removing colder air from the bottom of the oven as air inside the chamber is warmed. While some use a fan to circulate air, most lab convection ovens use gravity as a means of removing cooler air. The reduced air flow within the chamber makes these ovens suitable for treating and preparing lightweight items such as powders, beads, and films, but they are more susceptible to hot spots than other ovens, making them less suitable for delicate work that requires consistent temperatures throughout the chamber. Features to consider when selecting a lab convection oven include the sample weight and size, oven footprint and available space, and the proximity to and type of available power source.
