Desiccators provide a controlled environment for moisture-, dust-, and sometimes light-sensitive materials. Accessories include desiccator plates, stopcocks, desiccant cartridges, and desiccator covers. A desiccator plate is placed in the bottom of the desiccator and has holes that allow air to pass freely between the desiccant and the items in the chamber, allowing moisture to be absorbed. A desiccator stopcock is a valve embedded in the body of the desiccator that allows for a controlled flow of air or gas into or out of the chamber. A desiccant or desiccant cartridge, some of which can be regenerated for reuse, is placed inside the chamber to absorb ambient moisture. A desiccant cover is used to seal non-vacuum chambers.
