A volumetric pipette, or volumetric pipet, is a calibrated glass receptacle used in laboratories, classrooms, or research facilities to measure or transfer a specific amount of liquid. While a volumetric pipette has one graduation mark and is designed for one specific volume, for example 3mL, a measuring pipette has multiple graduation marks for measuring or transferring a range of liquid volumes. Volumetric pipettes are most often calibrated to high accuracy, which may exceed 0.1%. Glass volumetric pipets are chemically resistant, perform to high accuracy, and can be sterilized for repeated use. When selecting volumetric pipettes consider the required volume, substance being measured or transferred, sterility requirements, and stated accuracy.
