Selecting a Clamp Meter on Amazon.com
A clamp meter, or clamp-on amp meter, is a device for measuring AC current or AC and DC current without cutting, touching, or interrupting the electrical circuit. A clamp meter has two jaws that close around a conductor when measuring current. The jaw diameter can range from 12.5mm to more than 58mm. Clamp meters may come with test leads to measure additional properties such as voltage, capacitance, resistance, frequency, duty cycle, and temperature. The choice of clamp meter depends upon the voltage range to be measured, additional properties to be measured, and the safety rating of the clamp meter. Clamp meters are commonly used by electricians to monitor electrical systems and equipment and troubleshoot electrical problems. Manufacturers include Fluke and Ideal.
