This was the first serious reference book on collecting antique toy mechanical banks with color photographs of hundreds of original antique mechanical banks.
Bill Norman was a passionate collector of antique toy banks. He approached researching and writing this book with the same enthusiasm and diligence that he used in his collecting of banks. In bank collecting circles he was known for his taste and advanced judgment in collecting. His book remains one of the best to have on a collector's bookshelf. The numerous photographs of original old antique mechanical banks are a record of what original antique banks look like. His rating system can help new collectors make a determination of how much wear, damage, and repairs might affect a bank's value. The research and photographs are invaluable as all of this information was acquired at a time when it was easier for collectors to see, touch, and feel old mechanical banks that turned up in original condition in the antiques marketplace. Now the marketplace is somewhat more hazardous than it was years ago. This book remains a useful reference tool that we still consult for information after twenty-five years of owning it.
