This review is from: The Barefoot Man (Paperback)
Author"Davis Grubb's"novel"The Barefoot Man" is probably the most convincing, dramatic portrait of America's workingpoor since"The Grapes of Wrath".In this book, the town of Glory West Virginia circa 1930 is struggling to survive it's 6th week of a strike against the Deathtrap mine called"Breedlove Number 12".Every evening after dark, the impoverished, famished miners, wives and siblings gather on their front porches with their eyes on the horizon. They have made their choice as they await for the strikebreakers to arrive which will cause a brutal battle. This novel portrays an unforgettable celebration of the human spirit creating a world of heroes and heroines with tremendous courage against all odds and the faithful healing power of love!!
