DeMough has done a good job of creating a sense of familiarity for the reader in his characters, giving identity and voice to a sensibility that is pervasive in the skateboarding subculture. As opposed to a lot of skateboard media that is out there, this book IS NOT focused on the mass appeal of high flying tricks and "make-it-to-the-top" street league stories. Rather, DeMough has taken the perspective of most of the skaters out there who have taken a lot from the culture but probably aren't involved in the profession of skating. It focuses on the transition of skating all day to balancing the creative outlet with the issues that come with being adult - thus although the backdrop is skateboarding the struggle is human. This makes the story oddly familiar and hilarious in the situations throughout the book. If you have ever ridden a skateboard or have known someone who has skateboarded, you should give this book a shot.

I got this book originally from a promotion the publisher was running on another website (Shreddit), and I've already ordered two copies for my best friends I used to skate with because I know they will dig it.

My quick review-- the book is pretty great. The story follows two main characters who are skaters in their late-teens / early twenties. They deal with some serious issues (one of the characters gets his girlfriend pregnant) but they also spend a lot of time hitting the trees and cracking jokes. A number of the scenes reminded me of me and my friends when we used to just hang out and skate all day. I laughed out loud multiple times while I was reading. It is a pretty short book so its easy to read and really fun. I definitely recommend to anyone who skates. It's legit.

Got this book a couple of days ago and is really good. i enjoyed the realism and how skaters can relate to it. it gives off that " i remember those times" kind of feeling and is quite a short book so it doesn't drag out so long and keeps you interested (finished it in about 2 days since i was kinda busy). it shipped fast and was in an envelope.
