Sound quality is great. I use these with my Ipod and Sony mp3 Players, I just needed a booster to get the volume I like Now the sound quality is REALLY great.I have several high end headphone sets,Bose,Sennheiser etc. These are studio quality for a great price. For sure well worth the cost.

Well, let me start by saying that I was choosing between two sets of cans. It was either the Sennheiser HD280 or the Beyerdynamic DT660s that which I purchased. With that said, if I had a set of HD280's to demo, I could have possibly chose those, else I would have been purchasing based only on reviews. But, I actually got to demo the DT660s.

At first listen (out of the box) the DT660s sounded good, but they seemed a little lame in the low frequency department and the mid-range and highs were screaming in comparison. However I read that they require a bit of burn-in prior to them reaching their potential. After the first night and about 14 hours of burn-in, I gave them a listen. Not much difference, but they had woken up a bit and sounded much better. The sound was a bit warmer and the bass was present. I've now clocked about 160 plus hours of burn-in and listening time and the sound is fantastic. I'm very pleased with the progress. The tones are very even with good low frequencies, buttermilk mid-range, and silky highs. They also provide a pretty good soundstage for closed cans. Beyer pulled off the all time caper with that feature. They started out a bit harsh, but now they've settled in pefectly. These headphones aren't for the intense bass seekers in my opinion. They're well balanced and provide an honest presentation, i.e., if it was recorded that way, you'll hear it that way. However, they'll cater more towards the jazz, classical, and acoustic audience in my opinion. They do the bass catered genres (hip-hop, R&B, techno) quite well, but I don't think that is where they shine. I've blessed them with some Wynton Marsalis, Hampton Hawes, Lee Ritenour, and Grover Washington Jr. for jazz, The London Symphony Orchestra (Classical) and some Canton Jones (Christian Hip Hop/R&B sound) and they've performed very well and with great accuracy. I can only expect them to get better.

As always, I only listen to tracks at 320kbps or better (lossless format) to get the best sound out of my components that I can. I've used these on my Ipod (direct) as well as with a Boostaroo Amp. These are 32 Ohm impedance cans, so they did do well on the Ipod direct, but the Boostaroo brings them out much better.

These phones also isolate sound from the outside, and keeps your music in very well.

Comfort may be an issue for some because these are large phones and a bit on the tight side for me, but overall, the longest I've worn them is for about two hours before taking a break. They apply a little more pressure to my upper jaw (right below my temples and beneath my ear lobes) than I would prefer (not painful, just annoying), but at least the padding is soft and I'm used to the feel now. If they were perfect in the comfort arena, I'd give them a 5 star rating.

I've tried some of the higher-end Beyerdynamic headphones, like the DT 880, and they do sound amazing. They're certainly better than these 660s, but they're also quite a bit more expensive. For me, these headphones are the right combination of sound quality and price. It was also important to me that these are closed-back, as I need to use them in situations where I want minimal sound leaking into my surroundings. Despite their size, they also feel very light on my head.

I have compared these extensively to a couple other different headphones. First, the Sennheiser HD 280 are much tighter-fitting and are therefore much better at ambient sound attenuation, although the sound quality of the Sennheisers probably isn't as good. Second, I bought these Beyerdynamics at the same time as a pair of Sony V6s. For the price (<$100), these Sony headphones are amazing. They're very comfortable (especially with the upgraded Beyerdynamic ear pads), compact, and sound very natural. I use my 660 for home listening, and my V6 at my desk at work where things get tossed around a bit more.

Finally, I should point out that I bought these 660s for about $135, which looks like a great deal considering the current price. If you're already thinking of paying in the neighborhood of $200 for these, then you should consider laying out a bit more for either the DT 770 (also closed-back) or DT 880 (open-back) models.

I purchased the DT 660 headphones as an alternative to the Audio-Technica ATH-M50S Studio Monitor Headphones, primarily due to lack of availability.

Upon first listening to the 660s I was stunned that a set of closed headphones had such lackluster bass response. In fact, the overall bass through mid-range was distorting easily from high-quality source material at low-volume. After checking the other reviews for this product I decided to let them `warm-up' by allowing them run through some audio test loops for the day, three hours at a time (loop - one hour break - repeat).

While there is some improvement in the mid-range after a day of cycling (twelve hours total), I am still very disappointed considering the price-point and competing options. The M50s for example, aside from being less expensive, produce bass well and have an much cleaner and distortion free audio experience throughout their frequency range - all this is out of the box, no breaking-in or warming up required.

I will be returning the Beyerdynamic DT 660 headphones. I have heard good things about their higher end series, but this initial experience is somewhat off-putting.

These were just ridiculously midrange with not much bass. Treble ok but I had to turn up to hear the his and lo s which made them uncomfortably loud in the mids!

Feel super comfortable tho but I work in sound so I just didnt feel comfortable having them as a replacement hdph...
