5.0 out of 5 stars These are great, so far.
I just installed these in 2 spotlights today and they work perfectly! They are replacing 2 hot 20 watt bulbs that actually cooked my plants and turned them brown from the heat they emitted. These are a perfect replacement. The warm white is a wonderful soft color and it isn't a glaring, blinding light like the ones they replaced. I, of course, cannot speak to the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a bright idea, unless you like it dim.
I purchased these to replace a 35w 12 volt Halogens. Not good. I tested the two head to head, identical fixtures, 35 watt flood v LED, fixtures held in hand, at night, pointing various directions. The LED looked brilliant because of the color. However, when you aim the light into the yard you realize that there just is not that much to them. I could use the Halogen...

I could use the Halogen to cast shadows into the area the LED was lighting but not the other way around. I might use these bulbs in areas where I needed to replace 20W or 10 watt bulbs. My application was for mature Oaks. (Up and moonlighting.) I thought it might be nice to get long lasting bulbs up in the canopy so that I am not climbing a 30' ladder once a year to change them out. Without the power there was no point in using them. Once again, great for down low, light up your driveway applications were you don't need the power of a good Halogen. (I returned these.)

1.0 out of 5 stars LEDs NG for MR16 lamp replacement, August 21, 2010

This review is from: MR16 bi-Pin 15 SMD LED Wide Angle Flood Light 12 Volt AC/DC, warm white, 1228WW (Misc.)
I was warned by people who know lighting well that the current breed of LED lights intended to replace MR-16 lamps would disappoint me because of light level, color temperature and beam spread. This product has all of these deficiencies, but was not advertised to have the qualities of a quartz LV MR-16. It does make light, if very yellow light, and it seems to have the light output of a 20 W MR-16, but with the very wide (I'd guess 110-120 deg) beam spread, very little light gets to my kitchen counter from a 9' ceiling fixture. It makes light, consumes only a few watts, of course runs cool, but is of almost no value in my application.

2.0 out of 5 stars not there yet, November 4, 2010

I replaced two of our halogen 20W lights and they produce about the same amount of light. We have a relatively low ceiling and the LED's are at the very front of the bulb and so bright that it almost hurts looking at them. So it's somewhat disturbing. The Halogen lights have the bulb deeper within the complete mirror casing and are therefore way easier on the eye. I wouldn't buy this style anymore.

I, of course, cannot speak to the longevity of these since I just installed them today. Should they die soon, I'll update my review. If they last for years, I'll update my review and stock up on these :). Great bulbs. I just hope they last.

They are a little funky looking with the LEDs on the face, but mine are hidden by landscaping plants, so that doesn't matter at all to me. I don't think anyone would be able to see the LEDs behind the lens of a spotlight anyway. 6 watts instead of 40.....I'm saving 34 watts with just 2 lights! Awesome. I have 2 more of these that are going in 2 other spotlights I have on order. Now I just need to find some wedge 7 watt replacements! I would love to replace ALL of the bulbs in my landscaping with LEDs. That would be a large savings in electricity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, June 10, 2010

The item works well in my Malibu landscape spots, but the LEDs sit on the surface/face of the bulb -- whereas a halogen bulb sits a bit lower in the bulb reflector -- which might be a problem for some.

While the light itself is appropriately intense and accurately warm, the source of the light is much more noticeable when the LEDs sit on the face (rather than in the base) of the bulb housing (the housing is *exactly* like a normal MR16). If you had a light with a "snoot" or if the bulb itself sat lower in the fixture, this might not be a problem, but with mine, the bulb sits at the front of the fixture, so it's quite noticeable.

Also, the LEDs themselves aren't particularly attractive (looks like a science project kit) and in my fixtures, this is a noticeable thing...

Bottom line: they project light as advertised (very bright + warm like a halogen), but the aesthetics might not be what you were expecting.

I might return these and look for one that looks "more design-y" when off. The Phillips one might fit that bill, but it's 2X the price...

5.0 out of 5 stars Evenly dispersed white light; a flood, not a spot, May 3, 2010
By

It turns out this is exactly what my garden needed. I had three trees lit with 20W incandescent spots. They were bright, but yellowish and concentrated in the center of the beam. These LEDs are a touch less bright, but completely white and even. I literally turned a spotlight into a floodlight with these. That and the fact they are much less hot to the touch and consume far less electricity, make these a winner.

Recommended.

I replaced two 20W halogen bulbs in landscape lights which illuminate my driveway at night. I'd tried CFLs before, but they never gave enough light. These LED bulbs are amazing. Now I'm going from 40W to 6W with easily the same amount of light--actually I think these are a little better than the halogens I had before. I can't wait to see the electric bill next month!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not enough light, April 12, 2010

The light color is very nice, however be aware that this will not give as much light as a 50 watt halogen lamp
