The gold standard for regional birdfinding guides,
By Beartooth (Ballard, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The birds of Yakima County, Washington (Paperback)
Includes an ornithological history of Yakima County, several detailed full color maps of region, an in-depth habitat and vegetation zone analysis, recent Breeding Bird Survey and Christmas Bird Count summary tables, a description of over 50 local birding hotspots, monthly abundance charts, and a meticulously written account of every bird species along with specific notes on behavior, where to find in Yakima County, and any notable records. This book is easily the best regional birdfinding guide that I have ever seen. The author, Stepniewski is well known both locally and throughout the state as a respected authority on bird status and distribution, and had made many important contributions to various landmark studies. Mr. Stepniewski's passion for birds, his multiple-decade experience in the area, and his loving dedication to producing this volume are all immediately apparent to even the most casual observer. I'm hoping that he will someday write a companion guide for neighboring Kittitas County. Also, check out ABA's Birder's Guide to Washington State; Mr. Stepniewski is one of the main contibutors to that volume, writing and editing several of the chapters on central and eastern Washington.
