I almost didn't buy this bottle because of some of the complaints I read from other reviewers, but it was so cute I decided to take a chance on it. I was not disappointed! After owning this for about a month, I thought I would give my opinion on some of the complaints I read.

1. Breaking

The glass is about as thick as your average beer bottle, maybe a little thicker. This was the biggest risk I took with this bottle since I'm a huge klutz and I frequently drop things. Since owning this bottle I have dropped it on carpet, linoleum (without the protective silicone sleeve), asphalt, concrete, wood floors, and once on the bus. I was sure one of those times would be the tipping point but so far I have found that the silicone sleeve does a great job protecting the bottle from falls. Obviously, when you buy a glass water bottle there is a greater risk of it breaking, but I think that's the trade off for having a bottle that doesn't make your water taste like plastic or metal.

2. Leaking

This is definitely not the most leak-proof water bottle I have ever owned. However, as long as I make sure that the outside of the spout is dry after I fill it, and I take a second when screwing the lid on to make sure that it is on properly, I never have a problem with this bottle leaking. There is a silicone seal in the cap that keeps water in the bottle, even when I hold it upside down and shake it around. I would have no concerns keeping this in my bag with my laptop or anything else I want to keep dry. Sure, if the lid isn't screwed on straight (which is easy to do if you aren't paying attention) then it definitely could leak, but I have never had a problem.

3. Small opening

The mouth of the bottle is about the same size as a disposable plastic bottle.

I LOVE my BKR! Everything tastes so much better out of glass than it does from plastic. Also, this is the easiest water bottle to wash. Simply toss it in the top rack of your dishwasher, and you don't even have to take the sleeve off.

I constantly receive compliments on my BKR. They double as an accessory!

On another note: If you are to ever have any difficulty with your BKR, the company's customer service is exquisite! I'll vouch for this company any day.

I own a 500 ml Velvet bkr and a 22 oz Takeya water bottle. I use both daily (one lives at work, the other at home). I enjoy both and highly recommend them. The Takeya is easier to clean because it has a larger opening (about 1"-1.25" diameter). The bkr has the same size as a disposable water bottle. Both hold the cold well (about 30 mins before it gets to slightly cooler than room temp for those who like the cold water), and survive drops. If you want the cold to last longer, I recommend getting a builtNY or comparable wet-suit carrying sleeve (like the ones for wine) which will add additional protection to the bottle and keep it cool. All in all, I would buy both again. A brief comparison below for those who are torn between the two. :)

bkr
PROS--love the colors, great small size, water tastes great, survives daily use
CONS--does not fit in my Nissan Versa's cup-holder, super small opening requires special brush to clean inside, super small opening requires smaller ice tray for ice cubes, it's $10+ price over the competitors

Takeya:
PROS--wide mouth bottle for easy guzzling, great at keeping water cold, water tastes great, survives daily use, the price tag is decent for what you get, smaller ice cubes fit into the mouth (or just make them half high in a normal tray), easier to find a brush to clean the inside
CONS--fewer colors to choose from, the hook at the mouth can drive you nuts if you have a large chin, you can spill over yourself more easily with the larger opening

Peace and blessings to you all! :)

Call me crazy, but this $28 water bottle is SO worth the price. Here's what I love:

1. Easy to wash - to wash it in the dishwasher, you can remove the silicone sleeve if you want to, but I don't. My dishwasher isn't amazing, but after a cycle this water bottle is perfectly clean, inside and out. No handwashing required!
2. Easy to uncap - a lot of water bottles I've used are horrible to use, whether they need ridiculous squeezing, unscrewing, whatever. I carry this around at work and while working out. I'm a little clumsy when working out, but the bkr is so easy to drink from. I think the screw is no more than two full rotations of the cap - easy to screw on extra tight too.
3. Quiet - metal and plastic water bottles clang around when setting them down on a table during a conference call. The silicone makes it difficult to make any sound at all!
4. Doesn't leak - since it's dishwasher friendly, it'll never get wonky in the heat. The cap is easy and quick, so it's not going to leak on you with its holdfast screw cap.
5. Color options - so many good ones! They look durable and well designed in person too.
6. Size - you probably really don't need your 32 oz. Camelbak, so cut it out already. This is exactly the size of a Dasani you'd get in a typical vending machine. It's perfect for everyday use and easy to refill if you want to.
7. Glass really IS better - I'm ethically against drinking beer out of anything but glass because plastic, metal, etc. all taste so gross. Beer always tastes best out of glass, so why wouldn't water be the same way? Plus if you leave the bkr in your car on a hot day, the water won't taste like hot puke at Disney World.

I might faint the next time someone recommends a Camelback to me - gross. I get that this is a few more dollars (really only a few more), but it is so worth it. You'll wonder why you didn't get this sooner!
