4.0 out of 5 stars Bleem for PC or Bleem for Dreamcast?, September 9, 2000

Most of you should know that you can play PlayStation games on your PC with software like Bleem. But did you know that Bleem will release its new software that will allow you to play PlayStation games on Dreamcast with much improved graphics and sound. Recently, I have sent in my questions concerning Bleemcast, and I received their replies within a few hours.

Q: I wonder which one of them will give me the best graphics, is it Bleem for PC or is it Bleem for Dreamcast? My computer is equipped with Pentium II 233 MHz CPU, 32mb TNT2 video card, and 128mb RAM.

A: Well, bleem! for the PC has the potential to have the best graphics. If you were to upgrade to a very high-end CPU, with a good motherboard, and GeForce 2 GTS video card, the graphics would probably be slightly better than on bleem! for Dreamcast. And, with a Sound Blaster Live! or Aureal Vortex2 sound card, the sound quality will probably be about the same as with the Dreamcast. With the system that you list, bleem! for Dreamcast will definitely have higher-quality graphics, than bleem! would. However, remember that PC's are easily upgraded, and within a few months will probably be capable of quite a bit better graphics than the Dreamcast.

Both bleem! and bleem! for Dreamcast are a LOT higher quality in terms of graphics than the games being played on a PlayStation. The same goes for PlayStation games being played on the PlayStation 2, since the PlayStation 2 hardly improves the graphics at all. The actual PlayStation 2 games, for the most part, will look better than PlayStation games, no matter how much enhanced they are. Because PS2 games will be directly programmed to use more polygons, smoother textures, etc.

However, there is a couple other things to consider when comparing bleem! to bleem! for Dreamcast. Each pak for bleem! for Dreamcast will support 100 games, and will not be able to play any games but those 100. All of those 100 will be fully supported, with no problems (Other than those that are in the game itself, of course). On the other hand, bleem! allows you to try any of the more than 3000 PlayStation games that have been released in the past 6 years, as long as we have not already tested the game, and knew it to not be supported. However, only some of those are fully supported. Some have flaws, and some are not playable at all in bleem! So, if you would prefer to at least have the possibility at more games, and the ability to upgrade your graphics, bleem! is the better choice. If you'd rather have the best graphics at this time, and have completely supported games, bleem! for Dreamcast is the better choice.

Q: Although I have never tried Bleem on PC, from the look of your game list there are very few games that run 100% smoothly on PC. So I wonder what will happen with the new Bleemcast?

A: I'm not sure what makes you think very few that run at perfect performance. Of the 1069 games on the list, 359 of them are fully supported (More than a third of them), and 369 are partially supported. That means that less than third are not supported!

However, to answer your question about bleem! for Dreamcast, there will be no partially supported games. All the games on each pak will be fully tested to make sure they have no flaws. If we cannot fix the flaws that are there, it will not be included on that pak.

Q: Can you please make the later version of Bleemcast to support Space Battleship Yamato and Space Battleship Yamato 2 in the near future?

A: Well, at this time, we are only planning on including games that have a US version in the first 4 bleem! for Dreamcast paks. We do however, plan on releasing paks in the future that will include games that are popular in other regions!

5.0 out of 5 stars You have a computer, why buy a playstation!, June 26, 2000

Bleem is an excellent item. You can play games you have on your PC or you can even download them from a web site (EVEN THEIR'S AT http://www.bleem.com). They are also working on a dreamcast version of bleem that they might allow you to upgrade to or buy seperatley. it works with 300+ games now and it is still growing. You don't even need to have a playstation. You can use most pc joystics or gamepads. even keyboards if you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait a second, July 6, 2000

First I would like to say that Bleem! is an excelent idea, and works well on almost all computers. I would also like to say that you don't need a fast computer to really take advantage, or even use the games. I have a 4 year old computer, with a K6 233 processor, and I ran Bleem! with FF7, and it worked as well as my playstation. I also got to the movie sequences, and it did not even slow down. This means that contrary to another writer, you do not need a 900 Pentium 3 to run simple games, or complicated games.

5.0 out of 5 stars PlayStation games on your PC!, March 6, 2000

Wow, bleem! is great! It does just what it says... It plays PlayStation Games on your PC! With no additional hardware. Setup is pretty easy, and playing games is as simple as putting them in your CD-Drive (and starting bleem! of course).

They have a great message board on their site for helping each other out (if you have problems) and best of all updates are free!

Overall a great game! This has the added advantage of keeping fewer wires around the house for pets and kids to tangle themselves in. It plays my favorite games on my PC, and I'm able to travel with it, which makes Playstation an excellent idea for travel entertainment. I was very put-out when Connectix lost.

bleem! is bad...and it's probably my own fault for being "cheap" and trying to run this emulator on my PC instead of going out and buying a PlayStation, which totally inexpensive these days. The software company gallantly gives a compatability list on a flip-out front panel on the package, which is able to be read while still in the software store without opening the package. The list is a list of PlayStation discs that work with bleem!. What they SHOULD tell you on the outside of the package where they list game compatability is that the actual CD key (the bleem! software CD) IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH ALL TYPES OF PCs! Buyer PLEASE beware: if you own a Gateway, or a Compaq (like me), there's a ninety percent chance that bleem! will just freeze your system, crash, and be totally non-functional. Yes...the bleem! people DO tell you this, but they do so AT THE END OF THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL inserted INSIDE the jewel case, which is naturally inaccessable until you open the box and break the seal on the CD case. The system incompatability should be listed on the OUTSIDE of the packaging along with the PlayStation games compatability. For this reason alone, I'd give bleem! a score so low that mathematicians around the globe would have to work non-stop to be able to calculate it. Software is non-refundable most places, so just be aware that if you have a Gateway or a Compaq, you might not want to risk "installing" bleem! on your PC. Let the buyer beware...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but only if you have a new computer, August 13, 2000

I first got bleem! on a 200MHz system with MMx and a 16MB 3Dfx card. It didn't do ANYTHING. I thought it was garbage. So anyway, a couple years pass and now I have a Presario (566MHz Intel Celeron, 64MB RAM, no 3D acceleration - yet). So I decide to give it a whirl. It worked perfectly in the demo not regarding demo limitations. I had canned the original long ago. Anyway, I had games that were scratched to hell that worked because the CD reader in a PSX is garbage compared to what I have in my PC. It's my conclusion that bleem! works only on new computers (1999 and newer). Furthermore, I would like to add that if you were given the choice between a PSX and a new computer on one of those committment deals, I would say get the PC because it has bleem! and it does so much more than a PSX.

Too bad it doesn't support Gameshark :)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: bleem! (CD-ROM)
I really wish I would have known this before I bought it. This program has ZERO complatibility with Windows XP. In other words: it's useless. The company has gone out of business, so there will be no updates. Trust me, I've found about 30 cases on the net of people with the same problem.

Do not buy this unless for some reason you have a computer with awesome hardware that isn't running Windows XP (why would you have such a machine?).

If you have the awesome computer running old windows OR you are like 99% of the other gamers like myself who have good hardware AND Windows XP, download EPSXE (...). You will have to find a PS bios. The configuration wizard will give you instructions on how to find it. I know this setup is tedious, but there is no other way to play playstation games on an XP machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bleem rocks, June 25, 2000
This review is from: bleem! (CD-ROM)
This is a great program. Would you rather pay 30 dollars for this, or 100 dollars for a playstation? Stupid question. The only real downfall is that you need a fast computer to run it, and it doesn't have complete compatibility. I suggest you get this product if you want a playstation.
