Does anyone know if these Lord of the Ring blu-rays are the same as the old extended version DVD's? My son would love the updated blu-rays if it has all his extended DVD version on it.

My son works at Best Buy. He says the blu-rays are Not the extended additions. I'm going to wait until the extended additions come out on blu-ray.

Its a dastardly scheme to trick those who don't research first to double-dip. They are hoping to get people to buy both the "theatrical" AND the extended versions. They did it with the DVD versions, and they are doing again here.

Please, don't buy these, and more importantly, tell your friends NOT to buy them for you for Christmas! ("Oh, he loved those movies, and I know he doesn't own them on Blu-Ray yet... ")

Rent them that is what I'm doing. I watched the first one yesterday and I have to admit it looks dazzling!

From my research, it appears the only extended bluray is the 3 movie boxed edition, released in 2011

They have released the extended on bluray for the Return of the King and the Two Towers, but I have yet to find a BluRay recording of the extended for Fellowship
