I needed an external CDRW/DVD drive for my Toshiba NB205.

The Acer Aspire One USB External DVD/CDRW CD Burner suits my need perfectly. For my purposes, a drive has to read and write disks reliably and quietly; that's it. I don't need it to be especially fast or to look pretty. Fortunately, for me this external drive is quiet, unobtrusive, and reliable.

It has one eccentricity that I've found. It comes with two USB cables - one for data, one for power - and so you might find yourself in the position of connecting two USB cables from your laptop to this device. I do think it's weird. I've never seen this before.

I've had no technical problems of any kind with this device. I am thoroughly satisfied.

The drive did not work when I plugged it into my netbook's USB drive. I looked for the driver on the manufacturer's web site but could not find it. There are many places on line from which the driver can supposedly be downloaded but I didn't want to randomly download software from unknown web sites. So, I contacted the vendor, CBear, asking for help. The responses I got were written in such horrible English that I could not understand them. The "customer service" also indicated they didn't have to help me but I could return the drive for a refund. When I returned the drive asking for a refund, they informed me at that point I would be charged a 15% re-stocking fee! This is total embezzlement, especially since their refund policy does not indicate there is a restocking fee involved. They should be paying me for the wasted time and energy I spent on figuring out what the hell their responses meant in English. Avoid this vendor like a plague.

I bought this to go with my new Acer Aspire One. I also wanted an external burner that is lightweight and small. This one worked immediately right out of the box and is everything it is decribed to be. Fast service from the seller with several pre-and post-shipping alerts from the seller, too. A real pleasure.

Great product. Works well with my acer netbook. Easy installation. Was delivered quickly and in perfect condition.

The burner was delivered in a very timely manner. It works great with my Netbook which doesnt have a burner or player in it. I can also plug it into my desk top, which that burner no longer works.

Received the product fairly quickly but did not work with my Acer Aspire One computer. Followed all of the troubleshooting guide steps that accompanied the product. Still did not work. I realize products may not be compatible or may break for any reason. Things happen. That wasn't my issue. Requested a refund and took 3 emails, back and forth, to finally receive a refund number needed for the credit. Returned the product with USPS confirmation of delivery and waited one week before contacting seller for refund. Seller claimed that the computer had not been received and asked for a tracking number. After sending the USPS delivery confirmation to the seller and again requesting the refund, all communcations stopped. I filed an A to Z guarantee for the refund and finally received my credit from the seller a day or two later. Seller then apologized for the "miscommunications."

First off this is not a dvd burner only a cd burner.

This device is not mac compatible unless running windows

Additionally there support team can only be contacted by email. so when the devise did not work I emailed them sent it back and they wanted me to pay an outrageous restocking fee! or trade it for a dvd burner that was twice the cost. so i agreed to the trade and the send me the same cd burner and want me to pay to ship it again! I wrote them about the shipping and now they wont return my emails.

Beware of this product and company.

I have spent over an hour trying to get it to work. Windows 7 will not record on it ... does not recognize or asks for a disk even though there is a Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB brand new disk (also purchased from Amazon.com) in the drive. Tried different disks. Still does not work. Maybe that's why the manufacturer does not put its name anywhere on the drive.

When I came to amazon I was looking for a dvd burner. This unit comes up when you search, but it is not a dvd burner. It is a dvd reader and cd burner. Otherwise it works fine. It does work very good to put music or data on cds. Search should be corrected for this Item.......

I figured since the opening of the listed system requirements had the word "Toshiba" that I wouldn't have any problems using this drive with my Toshiba net book. It runs WindowsXP (also listed in system requirements). This is a two month old net book and a brand new drive, so I can't figure out for the life of me why this drive is not being detected (yes both cables are securely plugged in at both ends, and I restarted the computer with the drive plugged in). I did not receive an installation booklet in the package, and unfortunately I did not even open the package within the month that the warranty lasts (DOH!). If anyone has any expertise that could help, I would appreciate it. I've googled the problem and I'm not finding any solutions that I understand (riddled with acronyms only the technologically gifted can understand).
