5.0 out of 5 stars Really excellent and underrated! November 6, 2001
Format:Audio CD
I was exposed to CKY through the CKY2K and CKY videos, which are hilarious, and I finally got around to picking up Vol. 1. It quickly became one of my favourite CD's of all time. Their sound is original, filled with innovative gritty riffs; Deron and Chad are very talented guitarists who think up stuff other bands wish they were creative enough to play. The music draws influences from many genres, grunge, alternative, even a tiny bit of techno, as in the beginning of Human Drive In Hi-Fi. The drumming is hard and consistent and really helps give the music drive. They also have a great range of vocals. Some of my favourite songs are Sara's Mask, where they use a softer sound as effectively as they do a hard one, the opening track 96 Quite Bitter Beings, which has really tight guitars and bass, Disengage the Simulator, My Promiscuous Daughter.. hell, all of the songs are good. This is one of the few CD's I can listen to all the way through without skipping anything. CKY definitely has enough talent to hold their own against all the other mass produced bands out there and I hope they'll start getting the attention and credit they deserve!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air. May 31, 2002
Format:Audio CD
This album is truly one of the most innovative and powerful discs of the new millenium thusfar... a record that sounds destined to stand the rigors of time, 10, 15 years from now. CKY is a return to old school riff rock without sounding old school at all, a band operating on their own terms and procedures in an era where music is based on fickle trends and industry paychecks. Every song on Volume 1 sounds equally inspired and original, strong enough to stand alone or make an impact within the context of the CD.
96 Quite Bitter Beings kicks things off with a riff that is already considered classic (the Jackass shopping cart song, kiddies), and the onslaught rages forth until the last chord. Volume 1 manages to be diverse without sounding jagged, every song blending seamlessly. Deron Millers voice, while not particularly outstanding, provides the perfect vehicle for the hypnotic vocal hooks and subdued lyrical delivery that weave in and out of Chad Ginsburg's bombastic wall of sound production techniques and what-if-Jimmy-Page-was-in-Rage-Against-the-Machine riffs. Yet CKY's sound remains elusive and always fresh.
From the ethereal beauty of Disengage the Simulator and the beautiful Sarah's Mask to the horns up furor of Rio Bravo and Promiscuous Daughter, Volume 1 deserves to be heard. There is still room for improvement and if rough demos are any indication, the next chapter in the CKY saga shall do just that. 5 out of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your a fan of CKY video's this is for you jackass December 6, 2001
By Travis
Format:Audio CD
Whether you're a crazed Bam Margera fan, or you're just getting turned on to the CKY videos this CD is for you. From the title song "96 Quite Bitter Beings" used in MTV's Jackass (the shopping cart song), CKY, CKY2K, and Tony Hawk 3, you can tell this is an album to jump off a building to. From their slow grooves like "Knee Deep" or "Sara's Mask" to their pace building anthems like "My Promiscuous Daughter" or "The Human Drive In hi-fi" you'll not want to put this one down. Perfect for the Jackass in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars someone should stop you "american girl" March 13, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
this girl has said in recent reviews to save your money on real music. like what? american girl is obviously a mainstream whore, only liking what her friends like. she is not worthy of life on earth, let alone breathing our air. ive even seen her once. she is fat and repulsive.

I'm really glad that CKY finally got a major release. As many of you already know, this has been available for quite a while, but through an indie label. Hopefully this (along with the publicity of "Jackass") will help them gain the recognition that they deserve. No doubt it will. I mean, they're already on tour with Godsmack and Deftones. These guys are far better than all the pretentious poseurs like limp bizkit (notice no capitalization) and they are way more talented and original than Godsmack. Their riffs are far better than anything those guys can muster up. Speaking of riffs, where did they come up with some of this stuff? Man. Anyway, I can't really write a review that does this cd justice. Even if you've never heard these guys before and have absolutely no clue of what they sound like, buy it. I guarantee you that it will never get old.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Happy Camper October 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
Format:Audio CD
I recently got this cd and I have been listening to it ALOT. I love all of Chad's guitaring, Jess' drumming, and Deron's voice. The cd seems to flow and they have fantastic beats and lyrics. I definitely reccomend this cd to you if you're a CKY fan or not. If you have an appreciation for rock, you'll definitely like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars never gonna stop October 29, 2002
Format:Audio CD
like many people, i first encountered cky through the videos by bam margera. i remember hearing them for the first time and recall feeling an itch behind my eyes. the itch was telling me to find this cd however i posibly could and get it. living in hawaii the demand for cky cds at music stores wasn't big, but once i found it, there was no turning back. from the crushing opening track 96 quite bitter beings to the pulse like beat of to all of you, this cd does nothing but please and leave that itch, waiting for the next release. every song leaving you with a different but satisfactory feeling this release from top to bottom is a sign of much better things to come. yes, they keep getting better, and not many bands today hold that much promise. we live in an age of monontony and one hit wonderisms, cky is the gasp of life after being brought back from the boy band, c"rap" rock dead hopes era. what else can you posibly say about or to this band, except thank you for this surgence of life.
