why is the camera with the lens cheaper than the body only option?

I would not worry about the "why" but it is a fantastic deal. It is a way to promote buying the pair rather than buying another brand. I would recommend buying the combo with the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, however. The lens will only cost you an extra $200 and can be sold for nearly $400.
