Yes. The 580 ex is a great flash. I've rented it several times and used it with my 5D mark iii. My favorite feature is that it allows for remote flash, i.e. the flash doesn't have to be connected the camera body. No matter what your flash needs are, the 580 ex will cover it. If you have the money, buy it.

Hi db,
Both amazon's and bandh's customer reviews of the 580 mention that it works with the 5d, so you should likely be fine.

I know of no reason why you would not be able to use the 580EX II with the 5D3. Go for it!
