Robert Lawson has written four of these novels of animals who were the brains behind famous men ...Columbus, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin and Captain Kidd. They are clever, funny, engaging and pretty accurate historically (leaving out the animal in question, I assume), as well as marvellously illustrated by Mr. Lawson. I read them as a child and have remembered them fondly ever since.

Not sure how much of this is based on truth or facts, but the cat's out of the bag. I hope Captain Kidd wasn't a dead scapegoat, but then again, he may have been.
