5.0 out of 5 stars Best Text Book Out There on Careers!
I've read some dull textbooks. This one is not one of them. It's well-organized and beautifully written. It really packs a punch for getting to the guts of figuring out what a passionate career should be.

I love the metaphor of "career fitness." Chapters follow a logical order: Chapter 1 "Get into Shape: Taking Stock"; Chapter 2 "Visualize Your Winning Self:...

I got this book because it was the required textbook for a community college career-planning class I took. At first glance, it's a pretty plain and uninspiring book, and having read the entire thing cover-to-cover, I didn't find anything inside that changed my mind about it.

This book really read like a required-basic-course textbook that seemed mainly directed at unimaginatively guiding students into the traditional labor-oriented workforce. It is presented as a workbook, with perforations for tear-out pages for exercises, none of which was particularly enlightening.

I'd suspect that almost anything else out there would be more engaging to read and more helpful for someone really interested in figuring out what they'd like to do for a living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Text Book Out There on Careers!, September 15, 2010
I've read some dull textbooks. This one is not one of them. It's well-organized and beautifully written. It really packs a punch for getting to the guts of figuring out what a passionate career should be.

I love the metaphor of "career fitness." Chapters follow a logical order: Chapter 1 "Get into Shape: Taking Stock"; Chapter 2 "Visualize Your Winning Self: Training for Success"; Chapter 3 "Find You Balance: Zeroing in on Core Values," and so on throughout the book.

Bang! You're off to the races. This time it's your own career.

What I really like about the book is first you read the topic, and then the exercises allow you to actually practice what you've read, namely explore your career options.

I learned also there is a supplementary internet site that gives tons of resources and links with the chapters in the books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written! Good Book for any Career Success Class., January 11, 2010
By
I ordered this textbook for a Career Success Class at school and was overall pleased with its presentation. It gives you a basic guideline to help you identify your career needs and how to approach them. I am sue there are other books that are just as good or better, but this one did its job, so I am satisfied.

I took a class that required this book and I rented it and loved it too much to return so I bought it from Amazon. This book really helps a person get to know themselves by helping you figure out your skills and aspirations in life. It has helped me choose a major in college and I now have a career plan. If you struggle knowing exactly what it is you want in life this book will help set you on the right track. I definitely recommend it!

2.0 out of 5 stars It was in poor shape, March 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I did receive the package right away. This was nice. However, the book cost a lot for the condition it was in. I think the description was not accurate that it was in acceptable condition. The book was very warped on the bottom and quite a bit of highlighting was in the book.
