5.0 out of 5 stars The shores of which none are empowered to speak, April 27, 2010
Estri von Hadrath Estrazi and her lovers, Sereth and Chayin, venture to the shores of which none are empowered to speak. There they find a pure and innocent youth and challenges beyond their wildest dreams. Sexuality and philosophy and riveting story-telling. The first book in this series, High Couch of Silistra, was Morris's very first novel and got a rave review from the New York Times Sunday Review of Books. Read all four of the Silistra series -- High Couch of Silistra, The Golden Sword, Wind from the Abyss (Returning Creation) and The Carnelian Throne. Morris comes to grips with the intimate relationship between between sexuality and power and the ethical and physiological dimlemmas of strong women in a way that stood science-fiction and fantasy on their ears. World building without peer. Sometimes disturbing, and meant to be so. These books have legions of imitators. Don't be fooled. The Estri books are the real thing. These are the ground-breaking novels that created an entire genre.
