It is worth noting that this out of print book is also published under the title, "The Siege". So rather than paying over $50 on the amazon marketplace for a used copy of "The Castle" by Ismail Kadare, I'd recommend buying the newer translation under the other title for less than half that price new.
If you like historical fiction or Ismail Kadare to any degree, I'd highly recommend this book. It was the very first of Kadare's books I ever read, and I haven't been able to stop reading his stuff since. I'd also highly recommend "The Wedding" (Dasma) by Ismail Kadare, though you'd be hard pressed to find a copy. I have been wanting to reread it for years, but have been unable to find a copy in English or Albanian.

I have read almost all of his books, he is a very good writer and one of my favorite authors of all time.
