Tournament-level Scrabble is a com plex game. Wapnick explains numer ous additional rules that are needed by people who take the game very serious ly and advises at length regarding strat egy involving an understanding of psy chology and mathematical probability. Another requisite is a good memory for myriad uncommon words (but not nec essarily for their meanings). The author writes with a sense of humor that may make the book appealing even to casual players. Mostly though, it is the serious ones who will benefit from the tips and analyses of selected word plays. Rec ommended. William Hepfer, SUNY at Buffalo Libs.
