For most cars the adapter will fit into the socket. The question will be how hard will it be to REMOVE the adapter from the socket?

The adapter fits very "flush" with the front of the panel. I have found that removal takes some care when the socket is deep in the dash.

I don't have that device, but I do know quite a bit about cars, and I have a lot of charging devices for cars. They work on both my 2009 Honda CRV and on my 1999 Ford Escort. I think the real question you may be asking is, "Is my car recent enough that the lighter carries a stable enough current to support the Kindle charger?"
If you are using the lighter for your phone recharger, MP3 recharger, or a similar device and it works well, then you should have no difficulty. If this is not the case, may I suggest considering replacing the lighter? If you love your old car the way I love my Escort, then it is worth it. A reliable and honest mechanic should charge you about $35 to $50 for the job.

It fits in my 2002 Merc Sable and in our 2006 Liberty. Just remember that this is a 2-piece and 1/2 will stay in and you must have strong fingernails to remove it from the cigarette lighter. I've got a dual plug in for the Liberty, and it is a bit easier to remove from that.
