5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing since sliced bread? July 18, 2010
By XSIman
I bought this for making home made bread without expecting much from it because a wood spoon didn't work very well and a wire whisk was nearly impossible to clean. This silly little stick with a bit of twisted wire on the end has made things so much easier for me. I can mix more bread dough with it than with a wire whisk or wood spoon and it is extremely easy to clean. I wouldn't dream of making bread without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hoe your dough October 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Decided to try this product with the "artisan in five" and "healthy bread in five" recipes as they make rather wet and sticky doughs that have a tendency to stick to solid type spoons, wooden, metal or plastic and puff up flour clouds when starting the mixing procedure until the liquids start to be absorbed. Even after some mixing one still finds wet pockets and dry pockets until the final mixture is attained, then the scraping of the spoon is still needed and washing required. The price of Dough Mixer was reasonable and even qualified for free shipping if combined with other products to meet the required minimum purchase amount. That along with positive reviews made the decision to try it easy and we are very pleased to find that the Dough Mixer lives up to all the "promises Made" in that it is very easy to use and clean up. Just start running it through your ingredients in short strokes and increase the length as you go, like hoeing a row and voila in minutes the dough is mixed, a quick rinse and you're done. We oiled the wood handle, before the 1st use with mineral oil(as recommended for treating wooden pizza peels)to keep it from getting water logged and souring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dough mixer does exactly what it's supposed to do April 10, 2010

I read about this gadget on the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day website, and decided to give it a try. I have a large food processor, but it seemed like a lot of parts to wash for just a few twirls of the dough, and the wooden spoon worked but was more effort than I like to expend.

This cool little gadget does an excellent job, no fuss, little effort, and it cleans up very easily. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have for your kitchen October 23, 2010
By Lori
This is the first tool that i grab every time for mixing anything from pizza dough, cookie batters, brownies and even making meatballs/meatloaf. These make great christmas gifts for those who love to bake or cook. They clean up very well.

UPDATE:5/8/2011
Still my favorite tool to use in the kitchen from mixing brownies to mixing meatloafs. Makes great gifts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect melding of form and function January 14, 2011

There is no manual device I have found that makes it more easy to mix doughs than this dough whisk. I have been using one for many years, and recently bought several for a bread baking class that I taught. A device that is as simple as technology can be, it allows the quick incorporation of the dry and liquid ingredients. It does not knead dough -- that is a separate process than mixing -- but it does mix dough ingredients very efficiently, and it is easy to clean afterwards.

These comments apply equally to the dough whisks of each of the sizes sold. Smaller sized dough whisks require less effort to use; larger sized dough whisks mix more rapidly than the smaller size, assuming that the rate of mixing is the same with both whisks.

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this...with one tiny, insignificant exception February 18, 2011

Hands down, this is the best item I have ever seen for breadmaking -- and the price is right for the work it saves! My ONLY very small issue is the the handle is not smooth polished wood, but completely unfinished. Nothing a bit of fine sandpaper couldn't remedy I suppose. It still gets a very high 4 star vote, and I would definitely recommend it, or buy it for a friend.

Naturally the assumption is that when you reach for this tool, you have chosen to mix your dough by hand rather than use a motorized mixer. When using a conventional balloon whisk to start a cake/muffin batter, chunks of softened butter would often end up on the inside of the 'balloon' and occasionally you'll have to reach in with your finger through the wires to push the butter pieces out to continue mixing. What a waste of time when you just want your batter to come together already.

For pie/tart doughs, if you already own a pastry cutter/dough blender, then it might be useful to know that this can also accomplish the same task. If you are like me and use your fingers to break down the cold fat into smaller pieces, using this tool is also a good alternative when you feel like keeping your hands clean for a while =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Versatile February 3, 2011

I'm a long time cook and did not knew this very simple tool until four months ago, now I use it all the time.

Its main use is as a dough mixer, but I have found it very useful for mixing or stirring anything that you want to mix or stir more or less slowly, from mixing bread dough or tuna with mayo, stirring grounded beef or incorporating vegetables or shrimp into a risotto.

It is a simple and versatile tool.

This makes bread making so much easier. I love it and it's the perfect size for a small load of bread, though I may buy the bigger one for the times that I double the recipe.
