This review is from: I Am Cherry Alive, The Little Girl Sang (Hardcover)
This is one of the oldest picture books that I have....I think my mom gave it to me when I was six or so....but I just can't get rid of it because it has some of the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen!! The 'story' is just a poem that, while beautiful in itself, may be a little over the heads of most children, but the end makes up for that. At the end she says, "I am gold" - and there's a wonderful illustration of a little girl sitting under a huge orange and yellow and brown fall tree. She says, "I am green" - and they show her swimming in a green pond in green woods. "I am red" - and she is walking with a pony in the snow under a red red sky.
I'm not even looking at the book right now to describe it to you, though I easily could....those images are almost a part of who I am... It makes me sad when a book goes out of print...no new young readers will have those lovely images in their minds. |
