5.0 out of 5 stars Stupid name; fantastic novel., September 21, 2005
This review is from: Of comb, powder & rouge (Paperback)
I actually bought this book when I took a trip to Penang, Malaysia. That's where it takes place. The story chronicles the life of a Malaysian born Chinese girl. It begins with her carefree childhood before the Japanese invaded and destroyed many lives. The saga takes us through her wartime adolescence as well as trials and tribulations of her adulthood. We experience her tremedous personal growth and character building. This novel also gives us a glimpse into diaspora Chinese women during WWII.
