2.0 out of 5 stars Crippled by content sync issues January 26, 2012
I really want to like this app. The books look great on the Kindle Fire screen and the actual process of reading them works very well.

The biggest problem is not all of the content available on their web site is on the Fire. It's actually gotten worse since launch. Out of 51 new titles released yesterday, only 32 of them appear on the Fire. What's worse is that some books that have been out for months still do not appear on the Fire either.

The same thing happens with DC books that go on sale. The web site will reflect $1.99 however the Fire app still charges $2.99. I tried buying the book directly through the site but it took days before my Fire reflected the purchase. Since there's no explicit "refresh" button on the Fire app, I can't even attempt to explicitly synchronize my account with the server. I'm just stuck helplessly hoping it will resolve itself.

A lesser issue than the content sync problems is the UI itself. Most sections have "See All" text above them. It takes anywhere from 5 to 30 taps before it registers that I pressed the button. There are also some minor annoyances when navigating around my comics that I'd be able to dismiss if not for the broken update mechanism.

They may get these issues resolved eventually, but like I said it's gotten worse in the two months since the Fire launch. If you haven't invested in comics through Comixology yet, I'd hold off if your primary means to read it is the Fire. It's just not reliable enough to sink money into.

I too like many decided on the Kindle Fire as my tablet of choice for media consumption especially for reading digital comics. Initially this app worked fine but I soon realized that if I wanted to stay current with the newest releases from DC I had to purchase them from comixologys website, log into the app and view my recent purchases in order to download them onto my device. At first I did that for just DC titles but now I purchase all my comics that way since the app has become unreliable and seems to be never up to date with their claims of same day as print. It gets worse...the app consistantly can not connect to the comic store where you can view your purchases so they can be downloaded to your device..many purchases from their website do not show up in your recent purchases causing the headache of contacting customer support and proving that you actually have a valid transaction...numerous times I cant even log into my account through the app..and the only advice I received from their tech support on these issues was have I tried restarting my Kindle. (Of course I did!!! That is always the first thing I try you useless tech support morons!!!) A once decent app that has turned into a supreme disappointment with no updates in site to fix any of the bugs and issues. I'm sure if there was an apple logo on my Kindle I wouldn't be having these problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars No D.C. Comics July 28, 2012
Was very happy at first; then all D.C. comics and Gears of War comics just disappeared... I would not recomend downloading this app unless you are only interested in comics from select publishers. Inquiries went unanswered.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future of comics December 29, 2011
I've been a fan of Comixology since before the Fire came out, reading comics on the iPod Touch. You can buy on one device and read on another. You can buy online and read on a device.

The good. No "out of print" or "out of stock" issues. No endless long boxes clogging up the closet. No hunting for a particular issue. Let the app organize your collection. You can carry your entire collection if you want and pick up comics anywhere, anytime. Long out of print comics (as in the first Action or Detective from decades ago) are available cheap. Customer service is always top rate. The guided view technology makes comics easy and pleasurable to read, even on a small phone screen.

The bad. There are some synching issues with the Fire, always easily resolved. The DC comics aren't yet available for purchase (they are to read) on the Fire, so you can buy them on the website and download them to the Fire as a temporary workaround. You can use the browser in the Fire for this (that's how I do it) so it isn't much of an inconvenience, and they have announced they are working on it.

This is bleeding edge technology, so expect all the joys and troubles associated with such.

I had originally tried this app on my phone and on my computer, but wasn't a huge fan. I guess I enjoy having a physical copy of the comic in my hand. Plus, I didn't enjoy reading my comics on such a small screen on my phone, and the layout on the website just didn't look right. But I got a Kindle Fire this Christmas and rediscovered this app so I figured I'd try it out again, and I was impressed. The comics look gorgeous. Clean, clear & crisp. I also enjoy the option of being able to move from panel to panel in zoom mode, makes for a better experience reading your digital comics than using the mobile app or on the computer.

My biggest complaint about this app is the fact that you can't search for any DC titles on the Kindle Fire. Even though you can't search for these titles via your Kindle, you can go onto the website & purchase your comics there, and then download them through your Kindle Fire by going to the "Purchases" tab. It's a bit of a hassle, but not a complete bummer. I would rather cut out the middle man and download my DC comics straight from the app onto my Kindle.

Also, I've read that people have had issues downloading there comics after purchasing them from the website. I did a few tests myself, and I had no issues downloading my comics onto my Kindle Fire after purchasing them on the website.

Otherwise a great app for anyone who loves comics, but doesn't have the time to venture out to their local comic shop. I just hope the guys at ComiXology fix this lack of DC titles on the Kindle Fire soon....

3/5

Comics have disappeared from my Kindle
This may not be the problem you have, but I had to go to the app settings and increase the space allotment to have all of my comics on my kindle. The default is only 250 megabytes.

Does anyone know what really happened to DC on the comix KF app
I wish I knew. The dissspearance of all DC titles from the app store and the total silence from the developer really turn me off of an app that I was very enthusiastic about at first. Now i have a dozen DC series i was reading that I can't continue. If they ever restore the DC titles I may be... Read more

I don't understand why this app doesn't keep up with sales and stuff
agreed. i can't belief this hasn't been updated and fixed yet. You can't get all the sales or new DC comics. I purchase mostly with my phone but it is a hassle having to do so.
