I had been using my Garmin GPS with batteries for years. I used the rechargeable ones, keeping the cost low. I figured I didn't need the additional cords and hassle of the cigarette lighter power adapter. I purchased one on a whim, and I'm really happy with it. I didn't use the backlighting on the GPS at night before, because of how quickly it would drain the batteries. Now I can use it every minute, and I'm really enjoying my GPS even more. I'm glad I own this product.

I bought this to use with my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. It works great, but is a little "clunky" with the huge adapter for the serial cable port. What I found, though, is my phone charger cord for my Motorola phone is the same adapter for the usb data cable for this device. So - I already had a power cord for this GPS. Didn't need this adapter. Either one will power the unit in the car.

If you are going to use your Garmin 60 series in your car, with power only and no data connection needed, get this cable. If you are going to use your Garmin 60 in a boat or RV, and connect it to a laptop computer, marine autopilot, or other device requiring a serial data connection, you need to get one of the other Garmin cables that have both power and data connections. These are part numbers 010-10082-00 (power and NMEA-0183 data cable, bare wire ends) or 010-10165-00 (power and RS-232 9-pin D-sub connector).

Technical notes: This cable has built into it (in the lighter plug) a solid-state voltage step-down circuit that drops the vehicle's 12 volts DC to the (I think) 3 volts DC that your Garmin needs. With this in mind, be very careful to not get the plug wet (especially with salt water), or subject it to excessive heat, more than 14 volts, or "dirty" voltage, like from a vehicle with a known defect in the alternator or a bad battery or voltage regulator that is allowing voltage spikes into the car's electrical system. Also, the power supplied from this cable DOES NOT supply any juice to recharge NMIH or Ni-Cad "AA" batteries in the GPS; you need to remove them for recharging in an external charger.

You can also power your 60CX from a USB power cable connected to a computer, or a USB power supply of the kind used to power some cell phones.

It works. I could drive around with this connected to the 12V output on the car and not use the batteries in my Garmin GPSmaps 60CSx. When it came, I had a really difficult time pushing the connector onto the GPS slot. It finally started to go and after I connected and disconneeted several times it fit okay.

Nice to take a load off the batteries when in the car. Charger works fine. Little loose fit at the GPS plug but hasn't fallen out yet.

What can I say. It plugs in, it works my GPS. Does what it says it will and no drama. Wish other thing in my life worked as well

This is great so compact. Space is always a concern with all the items in my car so this retractable charger is really nice. Good job Amazon.

I have purchased several of these power adapters and they all work very well. The only problem is attaching the GPS unit to the bicycle mount with the adapter plugged in. It is a bit difficult because the cord has to be positioned just right. No failures in several years and several thousand miles, including much motorcycle use. We plug and unplug the adapter several times a day when geocaching and the connection to the GPS is still secure.

It's just a simple DC (cigarette lighter) power cord right?

Well, sort of. I had the original Garmin DC power supply and it worked OK - good quality, etc and not very flexible (that's more indicative of nice, heavy wire - actually a bonus in DC power cords).

When i accidently left the cord at a family members house (out of the country), i had to get a replacement and this one was what came up in seaches. The original was nice, but a bit short - not this one!!! It is plenty long to allow my 60CSx to ride on my dash, on the passenger seat, in my console - essentially wherever in my car i need it to be.

As other reviews have alluded to, you must push it into the GPS unit firmly until it clicks/locks in place. Then, the connection is *very* secure, yet not hard to pull out (if pulling straight out from the unit).

I'm glad i *needed* to buy this power cord as my other cord will serve duty in my wife's car so i don't have to carry it w/me.

This power adapter seems VERY rugged and performs perfectly. I was tempted to purchase the cheaper USB Power Cable, but I am glad that I decided to spend the extra money to get this sturdy power adapter. This power adapter does not interfere with the Garmin suction cup mount that I use. Very happy!
