Not just what, but from whom...,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Laptop Battery 7200mah (9-cell) compatible with Dell Inspiron 6000, 9200, 9300, 9400, XPS M170, XPS M1710, XPS Gen 2, E1705, Precision M90, Dell 310-6321, 310-6322, 312-0339, 312-0340, 312-0348 (Electronics)
By the time that you read through all of the reviews of this battery it should occur to you that many vendors are selling a battery that fits the description of the one pictured in the Amazon blurb. Because most of us do not record the particular vendor, and because Amazon may use different vendors as the "lead" vendor on a page (depending on in-stock supply, advertising agreement, etc.), you might be reading a review on a battery very similar (spec-wise) to the one you'll get, but not necessarily the same one by the same company. Mine is from Dekcell.
I have had mine since the beginning of September. I was put off by how much Dell charges for a new battery and the fact that the "all the bells and whistles" warranty I purchased doesn't cover a battery after one year. (My fault--I will read the warranty more closely and ask better questions next time--and it's perhaps asking too much for a battery to be guaranteed for much more than a year.) I use my battery mostly to preserve work while moving the closed laptop from work to home and back or for several days of hibernation. Therefore, I seldom drain the battery fully and don't want to be inconvenienced with playing with the power management settings to drain it regularly. This means I won't get the best battery life. That said, I only can charge to about 79% (after three months of use). Yes, I have since discharged it fully and this seems to be the cap now. Overall the low price seems like a fair offset for a battery that is certainly wearing out faster than my Dell original did--but only fair. It may not save me any money in the end and Dell warned me (when I didn't immediately buy a battery from them after tech support confirmed by bad battery) that any non-OEM unit may damage the computer some way and may void my extended warranty. Risk/reward profile: 3 of 5 stars; average. I hope that this helps you... Edit: At four months, the battery now only has a charge capacity of 38%. My original Dell battery survived for 18 months. It does not appear that the generic battery that I'm reviewing will last that long. Final edit: Six months after my purchase the battery will only charge to 2% and is, for all purposes, dead. I am surprised how quickly the battery refused to take a full charge and how it incrementally paced downward over its six month life. I will not be buying a second one.

Great battery if you know what you're getting,
This review is from: Laptop Battery 7200mah (9-cell) compatible with Dell Inspiron 6000, 9200, 9300, 9400, XPS M170, XPS M1710, XPS Gen 2, E1705, Precision M90, Dell 310-6321, 310-6322, 312-0339, 312-0340, 312-0348 (Electronics)
The statement in the item description saying that this is an original Dell battery is not true. The item I received was branded by a company called "AGPtEK". Although I am bothered by the seller's blatantly dishonest description (and thus can only rate this item as four stars), the battery itself is actually a very good product. I have been using it for about a month and can report no problems whatsoever. The average run and charge times are roughly equivalent to that of my original battery when it was new, and I have not noticed any degradation in capacity in the short time I have been using it. Given that it is priced at less that half that of an original battery from Dell, even if it does not last quite as long, it is still a worth-while product for the cost, especially since I will probably be buying a completely new system in a year or two. Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone looking to get an extra few years out of their notebook, but be aware that this is not an original Dell battery like the seller states, which means it isn't guaranteed to last as long as an original.

The battery works great.
It is NOT 7200mAh and it is NOT branded by Dell. The battery is branded with "probatts" and it is a 6600mAh battery (73Wh). I really should make a fuss about this, but it's such a hassle dealing with returns and I need the battery (for the same reason you are looking to buy one.) It will kick out in a couple years anyway, just like all of them. So for 1/3 the price of Dell's retail battery, it's just fine.
