This review is from: B (compilation album of unreleased tracks, rarities and B Sides) (Audio CD)
I'm not sure what I Am Kloot's place in musical history will be in years to come. Their first two albums are viewed by many (me included) as masterpieces of Northern Working Class brilliance; witty, bittersweet and gritty and grimy. Then they seemed to falter, writing and performing many great songs but releasing only a small percentage of them.
This collection of b-sides and rarities is a great collection and would be a good introduction to the band to anyone unfamiliar with them. After releasing this album, they elbowed (pun intended) their way closer to the mainstream with The Sky at Night, an album that I think is over-rated and running short on ideas, particularly in the lyric department. This compilation is brimming with stella tracks: Junk Culture, Monkeys, Stop Taking Photographs, Blue & Bone China, etc. Sure there are plenty of throwaways and some real crap, but it's certainly a worthy addition to anyone's collection. |
