Although this book was published by Salmi during the pre-restored Sistine Chapel, it is nevertheless a great book. The articles are written by experts and the plates are terrific. The plates contain drawings, pastels, sculpture and the Sistine Chapel. I remember being mesmerized by this stuff. It's great art. With exception to Frank Frazetta or Norman Rockwell, I cannot think of any artist who is comparable. It should be noted that the accusations of Michelangelo being a queer are false. Irving Stone, the historian, pointed out that it started by Pietro Aretino, a professional blackmailer, who hounded Michelangelo for some drawings. When Michelangelo rebuffed Artino, Artino became resentful and started the rumor. Michelangelo was a great Christian. In fact, recent evidence shows that Artino himself was most likely a queer. He betrayed all of the sinister characteristics of a queer: he was deceitful, resentful, vindictive, greedy, jealous, egotistical, self-loathing, manipulative, etc. Enough said. Michelangelo represents the height of European civilization. The Christian faith, which figures into European innovation in art, music or science, is the source of Western grandeur.
