This book has it all!,
By Dan Wainstock (Cambridge, MA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laws of Kashrus (Paperback)
A surprisingly thoughtful analysis of the laws and philosophy behind keeping Kosher. If you want more than just the "How To", if you want to know WHY, this is the book that will get you there. An impressive work of scholarship, The Laws of Kashrus includes a thorough discussion of how to keep Kosher and what it means to do so, and then continues with compelling ideas about why the laws are what they are, and the significance those laws have for the relationships among the people Israel, individual Jews, and G-d. If you want an introduction to the dietary laws, this book is an accessible one. If you want to do some serious research into those laws, the analysis in this book is a great starting point, and the bibliography is even better. I can't recommend it enough.

This review is from: The Laws of Kashrus, A comprehensive exposition of their underlying concepts and application (Hardcover)
This book is a very useful book. It is not meant to replace a competent Rabbi, but it definitely helps to explain various issues that may arise. It is written very clearly, and even includes charts to help explain different concepts. It was a wonderful addition to my book shelf!
