5.0 out of 5 stars "Very Enjoyable", March 24, 2011

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
A true legend of daytime television I was saddened by the death of Ruth Warrick in 2005. She truely epitomized the high-class, snobbish, sophisticated matriarch as Phoebe Tyler on "All My Children" for 35 years and her absence is felt strongly today by long-time viewers.

In this insightful memoir Ruth discusses her beginnings in Hollywood working in one of the most well-known films ever, "Citizen Kane" with Orson Wells. Although she never became a true big-time Hollywood movie star she enjoyed immense success playing supporting roles such as the one opposite screen icon Joan Crawford in 1947's "Daisy Kenyon". She eventually found success on daytime television soap operas in the 1950's, "The Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" playing parts created specifically for her by the great Irna Phillips. In the sixties she garnered an Emmy nomination for the breakout primetime hit "Peyton Place" and in 1970 she started playing the role she is most identified with on "All My Children".

"The Confessions of Phoebe Tyler" not only serves as an interesting memoir on Ruth, but is an insightful look into the making of the then powerhouse "All My Children". Ruth writes about Agnes Nixon (the show's creator) and its stars including Susan Lucci.

I enjoyed this book immensely, and for lovers of biographies, especialy ones who love the serial genre, Susan Lucci's autobiography is being released on March 29, 2011 so look for that.

An A+ read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Citizen Kane, August 19, 2009
By
Ruth Warrick has left us the gift of her autobiography. To read this book is to sit down for a long and lovely chat with this great star. Ruth shares the good, the grand and sometimes hurtful events of her life. I would laugh out loud at her antics and then feel her pain when learning what she had to endure. One thing is crystal clear; Ruth was a strong, kind, intelligent and beautiful soul who saw the best in others. For those who are fans of "All My Children," you won't be disappointed. Pine Valley receives substantial coverage in this memoir. The insider's view of All My Children and its many characters is meant to be enjoyed. Thank you, Ruth.
