i am confused about printing. do i understand that i need a wireless printer?

No, you don't specifically need a wireless printer, but if you want to print directly, without using another device (PC/laptop) acting as a print server, then you will need a Cloud-Ready printer, so do a web search for those. A wireless printer is not sufficient for direct printing - unless it is also Cloud-ready.

For printers that are not Cloud-ready, whether wired or wireless, you need to connect these to another device hosting the printer software, and set up Cloud Print on that device - you can then print from the Chromebook, via the device controlling the printer.
