Beautiful voice without distractions,

This is an album of SINGING, not PRODUCTION. Jill has a beautiful voice - clear and with wonderful diction. You can buy many treatments of these songs, but I can't imagine any better.

Fresh sounds from Omaha,

This review is from: cool of the day (Audio CD)
Jill Anderson's voice is clear and well worth listening to. Her album contains classics from the Irish tradition. It covers a broad range of themes, including love songs ("Sally Gardens" and "Far Away in Australia"), sea songs ("The Shoals of Herring") and Eric Bogle's anti-war song "The Green Fields of France." Jill's voice modulates from mellow to harsh, matching the theme of the song she is performing. Jill has backup instrumentation that includes bodhran, bones, and pennywhistle, as well as other typical folk instruments such as guitar, banjo, and squeezebox. The drums and bagpipes in "The Green Fields of France" set a tone that sends shivers up my spine. All folks who love traditional folk will enjoy this album.

A Thrilling, Multi-faceted Voice,
This review is from: cool of the day (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Jill's for almost twenty years and am so pleased to hear on this cd how well her voice has matured. It's such a delight to hear a singer who doesn't need complex instrumental arrangements to support her voice! Her recordings on this cd show her command of a variety of folk song styles--from dreamy lullabyes (Red is the Rose) to seafaring lays (The Shoals of Herring) to more military songs laced with regret (The Green Fields of France). This cd belongs in the collection of every Irish music lover!
