My daugher is a "young" just-turned 12, innocent more like 10-12, the youngest in her 7th grade class, could be in the 6th. She likes innocent, nonscary, light humorous, realistic, present-day fiction about families and friends-- cheerful everyday life stories.
Imagine Judy Blume's "Fudge" series for older kids, or the TV family comedy "The Cosby Show" instead done as kids' books.
Jeannie Birdsall's The Penderwicks is perfect! But so far just two volumes are out.
(It would also be fine if some light fantasy-- that's non-scary and fun-- were added into the story.)
But don't want stories with old-fashioned gender stereotypes, which so much older fiction unfortunately has-- this is her parents' preference :-)
Any suggestions? What after Jeannie Birdsall? Thanks !

Has she read the Babysitter's Club series by Ann Martin or the Thoroughbred series by Joanna Campbell? Authors like Eleanor Estes (the 4 Moffats books), Elizabeth Enright (Gone Away Lake and its sequel), and Betsy Byars (The Blossom family books) are great. What about Julie Andrews Edwards' books- The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, Mandy, and Dragon- Hound of Honor? These three diverge from the family and friends fiction, but they are wonderful.
